Reimagining Food Futures event at the Urban Room

The Urban Room at the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» is a space where people can come together to explore the future of places.
It provides a welcoming environment for communities, researchers, creative practitioners, policymakers and organisations to share knowledge, exchange perspectives and develop new ideas.
Through dialogue, collaboration and experimentation, the Urban Room helps connect research with lived experience, creating chances to better understand the challenges and opportunities facing our towns, cities and neighbourhoods.

What is an Urban Room?

Urban Rooms are spaces that help people engage with the places where they live. They bring together local knowledge, research, culture and public dialogue to support conversations about the past, present and future of communities.
Our Urban Room provides a home for these conversations, creating opportunities for people from different backgrounds and sectors to learn from one another and contribute to discussions about place.
Whether exploring housing, health, community participation, creative practice or environmental change, the Urban Room offers a setting where ideas can be shared, challenged and developed collectively.

Reimagining the way we live

A living lab for the future of places

The Urban Room is part of reimagining the way we live, a collaborative programme that explores how places can become more liveable, inclusive and resilient.
As a Living Lab, the Urban Room supports ongoing enquiry and experimentation. It enables researchers, communities and partners to work together, test new approaches and generate insights that can inform practice, policy and future research.
By bringing different forms of expertise together, the space helps foster more connected and inclusive conversations about place.

Working together

The Urban Room is designed to encourage collaboration across disciplines, sectors and communities.
Its programme includes exhibitions, workshops, discussions, creative projects, research engagement activities and participatory events that create opportunities for shared learning and exchange. Rather than providing answers, the Urban Room creates a framework for asking important questions, exploring different perspectives and developing new understanding together.
Situated within the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»'s wider work on place, the Urban Room connects local experience with research, creative practice and policymaking. By bringing together different perspectives, it supports more informed and inclusive conversations about the future of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» and other places facing similar challenges.
We’re reimagining the way we live through collaboration between the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³», Centre for Place, Nudge Community Builders, The Box and a growing network of community, industry, cultural and research partners.
Together, these help create a space where academic knowledge, professional expertise and lived experience can meet, generating richer conversations and new opportunities for action.
