About Shirin
My research explores the molecular biology, genetics, ecology and evolution of microorganisms, with a particular focus on microbial communities associated with fish and aquatic environments. I investigate microbial interactions, antibiotic and biocide resistance, and the biochemical processes that shape microbial function and environmental health.
My work also develops innovative detection and monitoring systems, integrating microfluidics and photonics for rapid and sensitive analysis of microorganisms and their activities. Alongside this, I am interested in microbial biochemistry and the application of microorganisms to bioremediation, with the aim of developing approaches that address emerging environmental and antimicrobial challenges.
