About Shilpa
Professor Shilpa Chokshi PhD FRSB is Professor of Experimental Hepatology and Director of the Centre for Environmental Hepatology at the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³». She leads a pioneering translational research programme investigating the environmental drivers of chronic liver disease, with a particular focus on the impact of plastic pollution, micro- and nanoplastics and environmental toxins on human liver health.
Her multidisciplinary research brings together hepatology, environmental science, toxicology and public health to understand how environmental exposures contribute to liver inflammation, fibrosis and cancer. Using advanced human-relevant models and patient-derived samples, her team aims to define the mechanisms linking environmental pollutants to liver disease and translate these discoveries into improved approaches to prevention, diagnosis and intervention.
She is also committed to raising public awareness of the emerging links between environmental pollution and human health, informing policy and ensuring that scientific discoveries ultimately deliver meaningful benefits for patients and society.
