About Louise
I am an Academic Lead and Lecturer in Dietetics at the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³», with a strong commitment to developing the next generation of dietitians through innovative, inclusive and evidence-informed education.
My work focuses on educational leadership, curriculum design and development, and enhancing the student experience. I am particularly interested in bridging academic learning and professional practice, supporting students to develop the knowledge, skills, confidence and professional identity required for contemporary dietetic practice.
I have experience in the design and development of dietetic programmes, including degree apprenticeships, with a focus on creating authentic, practice-based learning and assessment opportunities. My educational interests include digital learning, the use of artificial intelligence in higher education, reflective practice, professional development and approaches to supporting student engagement and progression.
Through my academic leadership, I aim to foster collaborative approaches to education, support colleagues in teaching and curriculum development, and contribute to the ongoing enhancement of dietetic education and the wider healthcare education landscape.
Teaching
My teaching interests centre on developing innovative, inclusive and evidence-informed approaches to dietetic and healthcare education that enhance student engagement, learning and professional development.
I have a particular interest in curriculum design, authentic assessment and practice-based learning, with an emphasis on bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and professional practice. This includes the design and delivery of degree apprenticeship education and work-based learning, exploring approaches that support the integration of academic knowledge, professional competencies and experiential learning.
I am passionate about supporting students to develop their professional identity, confidence, critical thinking, reflective practice and leadership capabilities throughout their educational journey. My teaching also encompasses coaching and leadership, with an emphasis on developing reflective, adaptable and effective future healthcare professionals. I lead modules in coaching and leadership, as well as research proposal development, supporting students to strengthen their leadership skills, research literacy and ability to critically evaluate and apply evidence to practice.
I have a particular interest in digital pedagogy and the use of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to enhance teaching, learning and assessment. I am interested in how these approaches can support student engagement, personalised learning and the development of independent, critically reflective learners.
A further area of interest is supporting student transitions, progression and belonging within higher education, alongside fostering inclusive learning environments that recognise students' diverse needs and experiences.
I supervise undergraduate and Master's level dissertations, particularly in areas aligned with my teaching interests, including dietetic and healthcare education, curriculum and assessment design, student experience, digital learning, professional development, coaching and leadership. I enjoy supporting students to develop their research ideas, engage critically with the evidence base and undertake meaningful research that contributes to educational understanding and professional practice.
Through my educational leadership, I am committed to supporting pedagogical innovation, collaborative curriculum development, the scholarship of teaching and learning, and the sharing of effective educational practice across dietetic and wider healthcare education.
